Jayhawks Tested, Emerge Unbeaten

Saturday’s game appeared, by all accounts, to be the game that could give the Jayhawks that one momentum building dominant effort. Perennial Big 12 punching bag Nebraska visited the undefeated #2 team in the country. However, when the final buzzer sounded, the Jayhawks emerged by the slimmest of margins.
The Huskers seemed to dictate the tempo immediately. Doc Sadler’s group slowed the pace and forced the Jayhawks to be deliberate on both sides of the ball. This tactic forced KU into 15 turnovers and helped Nebraska build a 10 point second half lead. The Huskers also managed to create second chance opportunities with 16 offensive rebounds.
Despite struggling early and often, Kansas came storming back in the second half. Led by Marcus Morris (16 points, 11 rebounds), they Jayhawks stormed back and grabbed the lead in the second half. Tyrel Reed added 16 points and pushed his team’s lead to three with a late free throw.
Lance Jeter led the Huskers with 13 points, while Andre Almeida contributed 10 points off the bench.
Kansas survived and extended their unbeaten season for one more game. Unfortunately, the road gets much tougher than Iowa State and Nebraska. If Kansas can’t fix their problems soon, they could be in a world of trouble in the upcoming weeks.
The Jayhawks will travel to Waco to take on the Baylor Bears Monday night before hosting the Texas Longhorns on January 22nd.
