KARI’S REVENGE

Posted By Travis Currie On Jan 15 2011 @ 11:16 pm In Dallas Stars | 4 Comments

Kari Lehtonen had the oppurtunity Saturday night to show up his old Atlanta team that traded him eleven months ago and he took full advantage. He turned aside 29 of 30 shots and the guys infront did the rest.

The Thrashers gave up on Lehtonen last February and traded him to the Stars. He was drafted 2nd overall back in 2002 by the Thrashers but has battled injuries ever since and hasn’t been able to live up to lofty expectations. So without a doubt he had his sights set on this one.

Trevor Daley and James Neal had two goals apiece, Adam Burish and Jeff Woywitka added the others. The Thrashers tied it at one early in the second but it was all Stars from there.

Mike Ribeiro and Atlanta winger Eric Boulton had words at center ice during warmups after Boulton took exception to Ribeiro crossing the center line. Others would crowd around to take part in the festivities, including Krys Barch.  Barch and Boulton would have words and ended up dropping the mits part way through the first period. Brian Sutherby and Chris Thorburn also went at it in the second.

The win gives the Stars their third win in a row and second straight at home after losing their last five at the AAC, including shootout losses to Calgary and the Rangers.

Both the Thrashers and the Stars have been two of the league’s surprises up until this point. Though the Thrashers have cooled off a little bit winning just three of their last ten heading into Saturday’s matchup.

The Stars are now 11-1-1 all-time vs the Thrashers.
