I think the attire of Phil Jackson set the tone for today’s unusual Sunday 12:30 PST for the Lakers. The Lakers are accustom to playing games at Staples Center at 6:30 PST. In observance of the early Sunday affair, Phil Jackson looked like a familiar foe on the sidelines, Gregg Popovich.
See, “Pop” usually walks the sidelines in a pair of khakis, dress shirt, jacket and sans the tie. Ditto for Phil today.
The Clippers in contrast wore blue jeans, a flannel shirt and hard hats and kept working.
I’m not surprised by the final outcome, 99-92, Clippers. The Clippers did a fantastic job of setting up their teammates for good looks, while the Lakers did not.
Just a ho-hum loss for the Lakers. Nothing to take away from it. Nothing really to learn. Kobe played efficiently but couldn’t hit from beyond the arc. And Pau Gasol still does not look right ever since Andrew Bynum came back to the team.
The Lakers are built for May and June, not the middle of January in a meaningless game.
The game did have meaning for the Clippers as both Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan grabbed 15 boards.
But the real star for the Clippers today was Eric Gordon. Gordon was feeling it from the field today. 13-20 from the field and 4-7 from beyond the arc. It didn’t really matter who was on him, he was feeling it.
So the Lakers move on and prepare for a rematch of last year’s 1st round playoff matchup as they take on Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder
