Walker Floats Uconn Past Nova

It seems like this scenario has happened quite often for the 8th Ranked Huskies this year, 35 seconds or less left on the clock and it’s “Kemba Time.” This is what happens when you have one of the best players in the country, you keep it close and you put in their hands. Today’s game was a HUGE game for both teams in the Big East, Villanova was ranked 7th and Uconn was ranked 8th in the polls. Nova hadn’t loss a Big East contest coming into today’s game, Uconn had lost 2 games in the conference coming in. This game came down to each team’s stars, Corey Fisher vs Kemba Walker. What’s great is that both of these kids are friends, so that only made this contest that much better. Fisher is part of the Duo known as “the Coreys” for Villanova, the other Corey is Corey Stokes, Stokes struggled against the Huskies scoring just 3 points in 36 minutes. Corey Fisher picked up the slack for Stokes and his Villanova teammates by scoring a game-high 28 points. In addition to his 28 points, Fisher had 3 rebounds and 6 assists. His friend and counterpart Kemba Walker scored 24 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. Nova did a great job forcing Walker to take some tough shots, as usual that did nothing to diminish his confidence at the end of the game. Fisher made a BIG 3 to tie the game for Nova, Uconn called time-out and got the ball into Walker’s hands with time winding down. Walker beat 2 players at the top of the key, got into the lane and launched a beautiful floater that hit the net ever so softly for what turned out to be the game-winner. Uconn is starting to really gel as a team, today’s win was because of the contributions from the younger guys. Alex Oriahki had another big double-double for the Huskies with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The other guy who stepped up was Jeremy Lamb, Lamb is really starting to come into his own. Lamb scored 14 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, as well as playing tough defense and making great decisions. Uconn is only going to become tougher to beat as their young guys keep growing. Uconn is now 15-2 and 4-2 in the Big East, on Saturday they host the Tennessee Volunteers.
