Mark Wilson is back in the winners circle and that begins this week’s What It Means:
Mark Wilson Wins the Sony Open in Hawaii: Wilson won his third PGA Tour event of his career yesterday at the Sony and now gets into The Masters for the first time.
Wilson is in a class of players that I kind of call the “OK, now what?” category. For the weeks they win, they look very steady, not doing anything too flashy yet not conceding any ground to the chasers, thus getting nice, solid, victories. But they also seem to play inconsistent after their victories and have a hard time moving up to the next echelon of players. That’s Wilson’s goal now: move on up.
Tim Clark’s Second Place Finish: Tim Clark is a guy I’ve had on my radar for years. He always seems to play well in majors and broke through at last year’s Players Championship for his first win on American soil. Once the blisters on his feet after a 36-hole Sunday heal, watch out for big things from Clark in 2011.
Golf in 3D: The Golf Channel presented parts of the third and fourth rounds of the Sony Open in Hawaii in 3D to those with capable sets. I do not have 3D so I can’t comment on the broadcast but Golf Channel did compile thoughts from some viewers (link not working at the current time, unfortunately), and most if not all were extremely positive.
I’m not a big believer in 3D for the moment but if more and more of these test shoots get positive reviews, who knows.
