Islanders have Devil of time with New Jersey, fall 5-2

For the New York Islanders, their recent play was overall positive and moving forward. After Monday afternoon’s loss at Nassau Coliseum to the worst team in the NHL, the New Jersey Devils, it was definitely a major step back.
Leading 3-2, the Devils, 3-0-1 in their last four games, got goals from Rod Pelley and Dainius Zubrus 54 seconds apart to clinch the victory.
The Islanders appeared with 1:29 left in the second period to trim the deficit on a goal by P.A. Parenteau, but official Bill McCreary ruled that Michael Grabner made incidental contact with goalie Martin Brodeur, knocking down the Devils’ goalie. Despite the fact that Devils’ defenseman Mark Fayne shoved Grabner into Brodeur, the officials waved off the goal.
The Islanders did get allowed goals from Parenteau and Grabner, while goalie Kevin Poulin tallied 22 saves in the loss.
“If you asked him (Poulin), he’d probably say that he’d like to have a couple of those goals back,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano told NHL.com. “He made some big saves for us. It was one of those cat and mouse games defensively and in the neutral zone. He battled.”
The Islanders return to action Thursday evening when they host Washington at 7 p.m. ET.
