After coming up short in a rare loss in the “The Battle of L.A.” against the Clippers on Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers take down the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-94 on MLK Jr. day, at the Staples Center.
The Lakeshow beat the Thunder with a balanced offense attack, with The Mamba leading the way with 21 points and 7 assists, along with Pau Gasol who scored 21 points and had 7 rebounds. D-Fish scores 15 points, and Andrew Bynum gets a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the starting line-up was efficient and effective. L. O. led the charge off the bench with 16 points and 7 boards, as the Lakers put forth another well balanced performance from start to finish.
This win was a nice bounce back type of victory, after the Clippers snapped their 7-game winning streak. The Lakers have won 8 of their last 9 contests, and look to be hitting that normal January stride, where they give you a preview of how good they will be come playoff time. The Lakers are at a good place right now, but understand the importance of progression before the three-peat title quest officially begins.
With remaining games against the Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets this week, the Lakers will face quality opponents that will test the mental toughness of the 2-time defending champs. With the fortitude The Mamba and Co. has shown as of late, don’t be surprised if another winning streak is on the horizon for the Lakeshow.
