It’s been a month since the Bills finished the season 4-12 and we are now well into the playoffs with the Conference finals happening on Sunday. I’ve found it hard to get going with the blogs again but I just can’t quit, much like the Bills played this year. What a year! More downs than ups, but the future seems a little brighter offensively than it has in years. However I use the word “brighter” very loosely, since we have had these glimmers of hope before. I won’t be starting on what Buffalo should do during the draft until I have a look who’s available and take a deeper look at each position. From now until the draft I will blog each week on a different position, giving them a grade and what we should do with it next year.
The Buffalo Bills may have started the season 0-8 however they easily could have been 5-3. They had chances against Miami, New England, Baltimore, Kansas City, and Chicago. What Buffalo lacked this season was the ability to win games instead of finding ways to lose, but this has been a staple of Buffalo’s for years now. Could it be some curse? Did this start in Super Bowl 25? WIDE RIGHT still haunts me; it haunts all Bills fans, and probably won’t go away until they win one. At least I don’t cheer for the Cubs… they haven’t won in over 100 years. Now thats a curse!
Of the 12 teams that qualified for the playoffs this year, the Bills played 7. Including twice against the Jets and Patriots. Hopefully next year’s schedule is a little lighter.
Getting their first win in week 10 against Detroit was a relief. Not that I thought they would run the table and finish 8-8 but a sense of “finally” they were able to win one for themselves. They were so close in many games before and they deserved one. Could you imagine going into work day after day and at the end of the day you feel like a failure, would probably find it hard to wake up in the morning and get to the office again? That’s exactly what the Bills did this season. Kudos to them! They finished with 4 wins. O.K., it doesn’t seem much but when you start 0-8 this could possibly be something to build on for next year.
My MVP goes to Ryan “The Beard” Fitzpatrick, finally we see a Bills quarterback that doesn’t seem to be afraid or nervous to be in the pocket, and knows what do when forced out. I believe the Bills should give him another shot, with that said, they shouldn’t pass up a good quarterback in the draft. For the love of God please no more running backs.. WE HAVE ENOUGH!. Fitzpatrick gave the Bills a chance to win and he was the primary reason why I tuned in every week. I’ll give you one more chance and if you don’t get us to the playoffs, I’ll be calling out to Rob Johnson to come back and take us there. In case you’ve all forgotten about Rob, I found this inspiring video.
Best memory of the year has to be the Jacksonville game. Thanks again to Miah and the Gordon’s for a great time. Can’t wait for next year, but no beer bongs until after 8 a.m! And please apologize to the neighbors for me.
I will try and make the off season as interesting as I can, if you want me to blog about a certain subject please leave a comment and i’ll be sure to mention it.
Stay tuned next week for my Super Bowl Pick and the annual Super Bowl Pool.
Enjoy the 2010 Highlights
