The Panthers took control of the game early and never looked back. Pittsburgh (19-1, 7-0 Big East) raced to a 15 point half time lead. DePaul (6-13, 0-7 Big East) closed to within seven points early in the second half, but Pittsburgh took control of the game from that point on. Pittsburgh shot 54 percent from long distance. Gilbert Brown scored a game-high 17 points and was 2-4 from beyond the three point line. Ashton Gibbs shot 3-5 from three on his way to 13 points. Gary McGhee grabbed 15 rebounds to go along with his 5 points. Nine players for the Panthers scored in the game. They shared the ball well, dishing out 18 assists. They proved why they are the number 4 team in the nation.
Cleveland Melvin led the way for the Blue Demons with 11 points. Krys Faber and Tony Freeland chipped in with 8 points apiece.
It was nice to see Pittsburgh go into an arena as the favorite and come out on top. These are the teams that quality teams should beat. We have not seen that hiccup that we are accustomed to from the Panthers, yet.
With Syracuse losing twice this week and Kansas losing today, The Panthers will likely move to the number 2 spot in the country. Ohio State has a tough test against Purdue at home on Tuesday night. Panthers fans should pay close attention to that game because if Ohio State loses and Pittsburgh wins their games next week, the Panthers will be the new number one team in America.
Pittsburgh hosts Notre Dame on Monday night at 7 p.m.
