With Wade Phillips coming in as the new D-cordinator, there will be a change in defensive schemes.
No longer will the Texans run a 4-3 defense, they’ll run mostly 3-4.
Now, Wade is probably leaning towards drafting linebackers and d-linemen but, I believe they should start with the secondary. The Texans secondary was one of if not the worst in the NFL last season.
With that said, in the coming weeks leading to the draft I will be giving my opinion on positions of need and best available relative to where the Texans are picking. Starting with cornerback.
Houston picks 11th in the first round where 1 or 2 very good corners could fall. Prince Amukamara and Brandon Harris.
Most mock drafts have the Texans drafting a defensive end or tackle but I say if either of these two guys are there take him. Prince is not far behind Patterson as the top corner in the draft so he could be gone. Harris good but not highly rated so, the Texans need some luck or good scouting.
If Wade learned anything in his time as the head coach in Dallas it’s this, if I don’t build a solid secondary then it won’t matter how many linebackers or linemen I have, we’re still gonna suck. Even with Ware, Brooking, Spencer, James and Ratliff, I could complete passes down field to my grandmother and she’s in a wheelchair. So in closing, Mr. Phillips, please build up the secondary, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
