Hall, Oilers, howl in the desert

The play never dies when #4 is involved. The Oilers’ rookie phenom Taylor Hall put on a clinic once again today, helped his club knock off the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3, while snapping a five-game skid for the visitors.

Hall scored a goal and assisted on Dustin Penner’s winning goal, his 15th of the campaign, with 21 seconds left on the clock. The first-year forward earned first-star honours for his efforts.

Hall scored his 16th of his first NHL season on the PP – a pleasant surprise for a team whose extra-man history has been dismal this year – at the 2:55 mark of the third period. A healthy Shaun Horcoff is also helping the Oilers top line, with Horcoff centering Hall on left and Penner on right wing. The Oilers’ captain tallied a couple of assists tonight.

Watching Hall’s growth, as he makes his way through the league for the first time, is quite amazing. If Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini had any doubts regarding his club’s first-ever, number-one overall selection, thoseĀ  doubts fade with each display of offensive domination from the 19-year-old stud. J.F. Jacques and Linus Omark rounded out the scoring.

Hall and the Oilers will have little time to savor their victory over Phoenix, as they board the team plane and head for Dallas for a Wednesday-evening contest.

In the meantime Oiler fans, chins up…sticks down.
