Fantasy Baseball Is War

It’s late January. The chill in the air has grown some nasty fangs, those new Christmas gadgets have begun to lose their novelty & well intentioned New Year’s resolutions are teetering on the edge of their annual oblivion. But never fear my friends,  this only means fantasy baseball is near! It is time to prepare for battle. Too early you say? That is the type of thinking that will leave you in the ashes of the regular season while others rise to glory. Yes my friends, FANTASY BASEBALL IS WAR! And only the strong, the smart and the well prepared will survive.

For most leagues, there will be 3 seprate battles that must be won for supremacy. The draft, the regular season, and the playoffs. The playoffs are at most 75% skill, with 25% left to the whims of the fantasy Gods. The regular season is the long grueling 5 plus months fight in the trenches. It requires dogged determination & steady focus. But before both of these tasks is the every man for himself street fight, the fantasy draft.

Whether you’re a wet behind the ears new recruit or a grizzled veteran, there is nothing more important than preparing for the draft. what you do between now & draft day will be the key to determining if you are destined for fantasy greatness. This can not be overstated and should not be underestimated. While a great draft will not guarantee final victory it will certainly place you amongst the contenders. Conversely, a horrible draft almost assures that a rival will be standing above you at the end.

Over the next couple of weeks I will share with you the strategies, techniques and random thoughts that I use to prepare for that annual fantasy D-Day. I hope it will be useful. But by far the most important idea I convey is this: While fantasy baseball is fun, if you want to win you will have to work for it. Victory will not come to the ill prepared, undetermined, weak willed, dim witted or faint of heart. Yes my friends, FANTASY BASEBALL IS WAR indeed! Do you have what it takes?
