Lakeshow Gives Jazz The Blues

After being labeled “long in the tooth” by the former Los Angeles Laker great Jerry West aka “The Logo”, the Lakeshow appeared to take a drink from the fountain of youth as they blasted the Utah Jazz 120-91.

The Mamba set the tone early and often, leading the way on offense and defense, as he ended up with 21 points and 6 assists to lead a balanced attack. The front court play of Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum appeared to be to much to handle for the Jazz, as The  Spaniard scored 20 points  and had 7 rebounds, while AB provided a strong double-double of 19 points and 11 boards.

L. O., as always, led the charge off the bench with 17 points and  8 rebounds. Odom had the shot of the night, converting a “H.O.R.S.E.” type of  high arching floater from 15 feet on the right baseline while falling out of  bounds, and did I mention he was fouled on the play as well.

With all the talk about West’s comments on the Lakers’ old age to begin the week, Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan, and point guard Deron Williams  are not buying West’s assertions of this current Laker team, stating that they aren’t just a good team, they’re a great team, and that they don’t look old by no stretch of the imagination.

I can’t help but to think that West is playing his reverse psychology card, by implying that the Lakers are slower than the team they beat in last year’s NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics. I know Laker Nation doesn’t buy his assumptions, and feel that intelligent sports enthusiasts see right through his criticisms of the Lakers. We’ve seen these types of mind games way too many times, by non-other than the Zen Master aka Dr. Phil, to fully take West’s statements seriously.

The Lakeshow will play a tune-up or trap game against the Sacramento Kings this Friday, and then they will face the Celtics, the team that West believes is the team to beat, on a nationally televised stage at the Staples Center Sunday afternoon. Come this weekend, we will see which team is actually “long in the tooth.”
