Packers’ Fan Fit to be Tied

Ever try to separate a dog from it’s bone? Risky business.

She can be the friendliest pooch on the block: wagin’ her tail and playin’ catch with a squeaky toy.  But try taking away her chew-bone and you’ll be missing a few fingers.

It’s instinctive.

That goes double for sport fans.  Mess with our team spirit and you’re askin’ for trouble.

Car salesman John Stone wore a Packers’ tie to his Chicago-area workplace on Monday.  It was the day after his team bested the hometown Bears’ in the NFC title game, 21-14.  It was also the day injured Bears’ QB Jay Cutler was getting roasted on a spit by every chucklehead jock and sports scribe who fancies himself to be an MD.

Like a dog with a bone John refused to remove the cheesy neck garment after his boss, Jerry Roberts, had repeatedly asked him to do so in the reasonable belief it was bad for business (Packer Backer; Sun-Times / 1-25).  Stone was then fired, or quit, depending on your perspective.

You’ve gotta’ question the judgment of a “father of two” (Sun-Times) who chooses team pride over the job that puts food on the table and then decides to bring his deceased grandmother into the fray as part of his defense (Chicago Car; AP / 1-25).

But every dog has his day.

John’s already lined-up a job interview (Salesman Fired; ESPN / 1-25) and with all the publicity he’s created for himself the now infamous tie can be auctioned-off for a nice tidy sum (or donated to the Packer HOF?).  But when to sell: before the Super Bowl ($2000) or after ($10,000 with a Packers’ win)? Get it autographed by Aaron and Mike and the price doubles.

Then there’s the off-chance of legal action by John.  Venue could be a problem.

But I’m old school.  I like my Black & Blue battles fought on the football field, not in courtrooms, auto lots, neighborhood bars or the new playground for idiots, Twitter.
