Patrick Peterson Out of Reach for Cowboys?

The Cowboys were not in attendance for individual workouts for Patrick Peterson, who is slated as a top 5 pick in the upcoming NFL draft. This is simply not a good idea. The Cowboys should at least be paying attention to a guy who could help fix a very damaged area on the team in their secondary, unless they’re planning on bringing in a free agent. Even so, taking a look at a guy who is a phenomenal talent with immediate starter ability, and is close enough within their grasp should be paramount. Dez Bryant was slated to be a top 10 pick coming in to the draft last year and the Cowboys were at his workouts even though their didn’t seem to be a lot of people thinking he’d fall as far as the Cowboys pick. I simply think Peterson is too talented to ignore. Though, Dallas may also be looking at Prince Amukamara out of Nebraska who is another solid player at the position.
The Cowboys may also be thinking O-line for the first round, which the talent pool seems to be full of, with Nate Solder (Colorado), Tyron Smith (USC), and Mike Pouncey (FL). These guys are projected in the middle of the first round and the Cowboys have been know to trade down for multiple picks over the past few years. This may leave the Cowboys with an opportunity to trade down and grab an offensive lineman and a corner, like Brandon Harris (MIA), in the mid and late rounds if they work things out right.
Dallas’ O-line and secondary did show signs of life throughout the season, so it will be tough for the team to evaluate which position needs the most immediate attention. The secondary is probably where they need the most help where they have steadily declined since the 2008 season ranking 20th in 2009 and 26th this last season and have given up . The offensive line is getting older, but is has remained steady giving up 34 sacks last season and 31 this season. Though the line is definitely wearing down they may be a less of an immediate need, and in the first round should be the best players taken and immediate needs addressed. There is still a ways to go to the draft though, and free agency will reshape draft boards for a lot of teams.
