YPSILANTI, Mich. —- There was a game plan in place, there was a chance for Eastern Michigan University to step into the arena and make a difference but the results did not materialize the way it was supposed to for the Eagles, Wednesday night in Athens , Ohio against an angry and emotional group from Ohio University.

The Bobcats did everything they needed to do and defeated Eastern Michigan University 79-65 to make up for their disaster against Buffalo Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Bobcats forward DeVaughn Washington, he tied his career best by scoring 20 points and pulling in nine rebounds.

“Any win feels good but that was a big statement game for us to get at home,” Washington said about his team’s win. “Now we just have to move on.”

“Washington played very well. He destroyed our post guys all night,” Eastern Michigan University basketball coach Charles Ramsey said about Washington’s performance. “We never got him under control at all. I don’t know if was necessarily Brandon (Bowdry) going out because Brandon was not on all cylinders on that end anyway.”

Bowdry is in a scoring slump shooting 3 of 11 from the field against a demanding Bobcat defense, he finished the game with just eight points and five rebounds.

The Bobcat game plan was simply make Bowdry play defense and he got two fouls in the first half and that slowed up and finished the Eagles’ momentum.

“He is a good player and we wanted to make him play defense. We attacked him,” Ohio University basketball coach John Groce said about his game plan against Bowdry. “He is a 20-10 guy and we thought that would certainly be to our advantage. Ivo (Baltic did a good job on offense.”

The effort that the Eagles put forward against their victory against Central Michigan University was not of the same intensity.

The Bobcats shot a seasont best 54 percent from the field and the Eagles knew before going into the game , that Ohio University perimeter offense is a lethal weapon in their arsenal. The Bobcat shot and blistered the nets from beyond the three point arch, hitting a tantalizing 58.3 percent.

Leading the perimeter game for the Bobcats Nick Kellogg, he scored 15 points and was a perfect 3 of 3 from the promise land of three points .

“He’s been one of our best shooters. He and Tommy (Freeman) have been knocking down shots,” Groce said. “I have a lot of trust in him.”

The success from the jump shot created domination by the Bobcats in the paint and under the basket. They scored 32 points inside the paint area.

Eastern Michigan University offense did create some uncomfortable moments for Groce and the Bobcats by making a 14-2 run late in the game but the deficit was too large and the Eagles could not catch Ohio University.

“Obviously we got out to the big lead and had it at 26, I think with four minutes: we turned the ball over and we did not guard,” Groce said about the late stage of the game. “I thought we took it a little lightly in the last four minutes.”

The tour of the East Division continues for the Eagles Saturday afternoon with another road trip.

Just a short journey into Ohio and continue south on Interstate – 75 to the inviting and charming Anderson Arena the home of Bowling Green State University Falcons the tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
