Reggie Jackson benched to start halves, Duke’s guards roll.

Playing at Cameron Indoor vs. the #3 ranked Duke Blue Devils provided a host of match-up problems for the BC Eagles. One of the few spots on the floor where BC matched up well with Coach K’s squad was at the point guard spot, manned by Reggie Jackson. Yahoo! Sports ranks the 6’3” 200 pound point guard out of Colorado Springs, CO as the fourth ranked PG in the country. Neither Duke guard, Nolan Smith or Seth Curry (Stephen’s little brother), are in the rankings.
However at the start of the game, Jackson was not in the lineup. Junior Dallas Elmore received the start instead. Jackson checked in for the first time at following the under-16 minute media timeout in the first half, but he also remained on the bench at the beginning of the second half, when BC was already trailing by nine. Duke ended up defeating the Eagles handily by a final score of 84-68. Much of the credit for Duke’s victory could be attributed to Smith and Curry. The pair combined for 48 points on 16-39 shooting, including 6-10 from behind the arc.
Jackson on the other hand managed only 7 points and missed all four of his 3-point attempts. While no definitive explanation of why Steve Donahue benched Jackson at the start of each half was made on air, the TV announcers did comment on how Jackson was playing indifferent and seemed disinterested. This situation is one that will have to be followed as the Eagles continue on in their ACC schedule and into the postseason. Currently Mike Huguenin of Rivals.com has the Eagles projected as an 8 seed, along with the Big East’s Louisville, the MVC’s Missouri State, and one of last year’s tourney darlings in St. Marys.
