Islanders ink Moulson to 3-year extension

While their record on the ice has not been stellar, the New York Islanders think they have a winner in the form of Matt Moulson.

Wanting to make sure Moulson goes nowhere anytime soon, the Islanders and Moulson, 27, reached a three-year, $9.4 million contract extension, according to Newsday.

Moulson tallied 30 goals in the 2009-2010 season and has registered 17 goals in the first 49 games of this season.  His 17 goals make him second only to John Tavares in Islanders goals this season.

In his 160 career games, Moulson has tallied 53 goals and 34 assists. Last season, Moulson was given a one-year, $2.45 million contract in arbitration.

According to The New York Post, Islanders general manager Garth Snow commented recently that signing Moulson long-term was the No. 1 priority before the Feb. 28 trade deadline.

With the team in its All-Star break, Islander fans are hoping the money spent on Moulson will show itself to be the right move the second half of the season and down the road.
