Clippers-Bucks Preview (Jan. 31)

The Los Angeles Clippers (18-28) will be looking for their ninth consecutive win at Staples Center Monday night as they host the 19-26 Milwaukee Bucks. A win will give the Clippers their longest home winning streak since moving from San Diego to L.A. in 1984.

The Clippers are playing the second of three straight home games before they set out on their epic 11-game road trip starting Friday night in Atlanta.

They’re coming off an easy 103-88 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday night.

Blake Griffin led the charge, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 boards to rebound from an off-night in the loss to Houston in the previous game.

A key for the Clippers has been the play of Randy Foye, who has started the last three games in place of the injured Eric Gordon. Gordon is the Clippers’ leading scorer, averaging just over 24 points per game.

Foye is averaging 18.7 points in his three starts, and has gone 8-20 from three-point range.

The Bucks, meanwhile, have won three straight games, and sit just a game-and-a-half back of the aforementioned Bobcats for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Milwaukee has also gotten point guard Brandon Jennings back from a foot injury that sidelined him since December 18.

However, he’s on a 12 minute per game limit to start, so his impact on the game will likely be limited. He scored two points on 0-5 shooting in 11 minutes in Saturday’s win over the New Jersey Nets.

The Bucks will be without second-leading scorer John Salmons, who has missed the last seven games with a hip injury.

Similar to Foye stepping in for Gordon, Carlos Delfino has upped his output in the absence of Salmons, averaging 17 points over his last three games. Delfino himself missed 32 games earlier in the season with concussion-like symptoms.

A key matchup will be Bucks center Andrew Bogut facing off against DeAndre Jordan.

Bogut, the first overall draft pick in 2005, is averaging 13.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game for Milwaukee. He appears to be rounding into form while recovering from a horrific elbow injury suffered late last season that forced him to miss the playoffs.

Jordan, who has started and excelled in the place of the injured Chris Kaman this season, 6.8 points, 7.3 boards and 1.7 blocks per game.

He’s become a shot-blocking force around the rim, and is looking like a very formidable defensive center for Los Angeles.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm PT.
