Hey Aaron Rodgers…Where Did You Come From? I Know Where You Are Going!

The Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has quickly made a name for himself in the NFL. Now he is on the verge of playing the most football game of his career. Rodgers is from Chico, California. He was the star of his high school football team. He scored 1300 on his SATs, so he is far from a dumb QB. Rodgers graduated from high school in 2002.

Although, his ability to play football was well known locally, he garnered little attention from high profile football programs. Instead of grabbing a premium scholarship, he attended a local junior college. It’s hard to believe when you watch Rodgers play now that less than ten years ago he was not even playing Division I football.

He was immediately noticed by California Head Coach Jeff Tedford while he was on a scouting trip for another player. Rodgers only attended junior college for one year. He entered California with three years of football eligibility left in 2003. He quickly helped turn around the Golden Bears program. They finished with a 7-3 record with Rodgers starting at QB.

Rodgers led the team to a 10-1 record in 2004 and a top-five ranking nationally. After this break out season, Rodgers decided to enter the 2005 NFL draft. He ended up at the Green Bay Packers and was Brett Favre’s backup from 2005-2007. In 2008 Favre retired and Rodgers was made the starting QB for the Packers. He quickly brought a newness to the Packers offense and showed great leadership skills. Which is remarkable since he was replacing a legend.

By 2009 Rodgers had earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl and was made the starting QB for the NFC.  During the 2010 season the Packers  start was rocky. Adding to the troubles, Rodgers suffered two concussions. But the team was able to rally by the time the regular season ended. They finished with a 10-6 record and earned a playoff berth as a #6 wild-card seed.

Besides leading his team to the Super Bowl this season, Rodgers has made a name for himself for his touchdown celebrations. After any scoring play for the Packers, he celebrates by making a motion of putting an invisible belt around his waist. Rodgers has dubbed it “the championship belt.” Now it’s become his signature move. So if the Packers score a lot of points on Sunday, expect to become very familiar with this move.

It is clear that this is only the beginning of big games for Aaron Rodgers. If he is able to help Green Bay achieve another Super Bowl Championship, this will finally silence his doubters. Then he can officially start his own legacy with the Packers.
