Rose Dazzles as Bulls Stop Clippers

Eastern Conference All-Star starter Derrick Rose scored 32 points and dished out 11 assists as the Chicago Bulls halted the Los Angeles Clippers’ nine-game home winning streak 106-88 at Staples Center Wednesday night.
Blake Griffin scored 32 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and chipped in with seven assists, but was held in check for the most part in the second half. It was his 40th double-double of the season.
He scored just seven of his 32 points in the second half, and shot just 4-13 from the free throw line. The Clippers as a team shot 11-21.
The Bulls’ halftime defensive adjustments to try and limit Griffin were evident, as they were able to successfully push him off the block and brought double teams to get the ball out of his hands.
Chicago’s sixth consecutive victory put them 20 games over .500 for the season, while the Clippers’ loss dropped them to 19-29.
Los Angeles shot nearly 47 percent for the game, but the Clippers struggled to find offense from anyone other than Griffin and Ryan Gomes (16 points). Eric Gordon was sorely missed on both ends of the floor, as Rose was able to get into the paint and wreak havoc at will against the Clipper defense.
Three-point shooting was a key for the Bulls, as they made 12 of their 26 attempts from beyond-the-arc. Luol Deng scored 26 points and hit three three-pointers of his own.
Carlos Boozer and Taj Gibson combined for 27 points and 22 rebounds for Chicago.
DeAndre Jordan, who has been playing by far the best basketball of his career, was a non-factor. He scored no points, didn’t attempt a shot, blocked a pair of shots and had just three rebounds in 30 minutes of action.
As a result, Los Angeles was killed on the glass, getting outrebounded 41-30 by the Bulls, including several second half offensive rebounds that kept the Clippers at bay.
Chicago never trailed in the game, and it was their 23rd win in the last 29 games. With the win, they tied the Miami Heat for second place in the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, this was the Clippers’ final game as the home team at Staples Center until February 26th, when they’ll host the Boston Celtics.
The upcoming 11-game road trip is the longest for any team this season, and it begins Friday night when they’ll take on the Atlanta Hawks at Phillips Arena.
