The Rodeo Road Trip started with a some what embarrassing loss to Portland, a team that is currently sitting in the 8th spot in the west. So if there isn’t any shake ups,Memphis and Phoenix could make a run, Portland would come to San Antonio in the first round of the playoffs. A win would have sent a nice message to the Trailblazers. The silver lining from the loss is that Aldridge won’t have a career night every night.
Then came last night. I figured the game would be closer than the first matchup where the Spurs won by 15 points but I did think the Spurs would’ve pulled away late. So much for that. The game as a whole was poor for the Spurs with flashes of really good defense. The offense was at it’s best when TP9 was attacking the basket. Bonner would’ve made a difference. I would like to have seen James Anderson get some minutes when Neal was struggling.
Manu gambling on defense at the end of the game is just something we have to live with but the game ball goes to Antonio. His effort the play before his game winning tip in was key to the Spurs getting the last possesion instead of having to foul. So big props to Antonio McDyess.
Tonight the road trip continues in Sacramento. A tougher matchup then a lot people think. After last night, the Spurs have to come out strong and not flat or the Kings will jump on them. Beno has flourished in his role with the Kings and Cousins is showing more improvement with every game. I can’t forget about Tyreke Evans. Forget about last night and focus on the Kings then take a long weekend.
