BC wins a crucial game for NCAA Tourney chances.

A reeling BC Eagles’ team entered Saturday coming off three straight losses, all to likely NCAA Tourney teams, and badly needed a win at home today in order to keep its at-large alive or risk being forced into a desperate attempt to win the ACC Conference Tournament or settle for the NIT.
Rivals.com’s Mike Huguenin still had the Eagle’s projected as an 8 seed coming into today’s action, along with the likes of Vanderbilt, St. Mary’s, and Virginia Commonwealth. However, he alluded to the fact that their hold on a tourney spot was tenuous at best with the recent losing streak. In these circumstances, what better team in the ACC is there to play than the ultimate tournament bubble team, the Virginia Tech Hokies?
Seth Greenberg’s bunch came into the game above BC in both ACC record and overall record, but left with a 58-56 loss. Reggie Jackson, who had struggled as of late and had even been benched, got going in the final 1/4th of the game, scoring all of his 10 points in that timeframe. Typical of the Hokies struggles when it mattered the most, Virginia Tech failed to tie or take the lead not once, not twice, but three times trailing by two points with the shot clock turned off in the final minute of the second half.
After a stretch of games that included at Florida State, at Duke, and home against North Carolina and Virginia Tech; the schedule eases up considerably for the Eagles. The remaining seven ACC teams on the schedule before postseason play had a combined record of 25-29 in conference play entering today and have already beaten the 4-4 ACC Maryland Terrapins in Maryland back in mid- December. This is in comparison to the previous four game stretch against teams a combined 24-8 in ACC play entering the day. A 5-2 record over those seven games or a 4-3 record that includes an upset win in Chapel Hill or Blacksburg should be enough to prevent Steve Donahue and company from sweating too much on Selection Sunday.
