Eskimos Sign Former First Overall Pick

Eric Tillman has taken another step in the right direction in fixing this team.

The Esks announced Monday the signing of Receiver Chris Bauman.

One of the main problems the Esks had last year was Canadian content. In that they had none. The key to success in the CFL is having skilled Canadians so Tillman is going out to find it.

His first addition isn’t a bad one either. Bauman was Hamilton’s first pick overall in the 2007 draft .  The second pick in that draft belonged to Edmonton, who drafted a kicker by the name Warren Keen, who is no longer with the team.

“We’re very pleased to have Chris as an Eskimo,” says Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman.  “He’s still in the formative stages of his career, but we certainly believe he is a young man with significant upside.  In planning for 2011, from day one our mantra has been that strong Canadian content is the backbone of all successful clubs in our league.  Signing Chris is another positive step in our objective to upgrade that critical component of success.”

Bauman recorded 17 catches for 298 yards and 3 touchdowns last year with the Tiger-cats.

Bauman was released by Hamilton making him availablefor the Esks. Free agency in the CFL starts February 16th, one week from tomorrow.
