Jerry Sloan Calls It Quits

Posted By Wilson Tarpeh Jr. On Feb 11 2011 @ 2:01 am In Utah Jazz | No Comments

Yesterday was a very sad day for the National Basketball Association, the longest tenured coach in the NBA as well as all of professional sports has decided to resign. Twenty three years in one place, in one of the greatest systems in the game, as the face of a franchise, the coach of 2 very special Hall of Farmer’s, and the only reason the Jazz are competitive EVERY single year. Sloan had signed an extension earlier in the week, that is why his sudden decision to resign came as such a shock. Much of the chatter out  there is that Deron Williams may have run him out of town, I do believe he may have been run out of town although I don’t think it was BY Williams. The Jazz have been struggling as of late, D-Will hasn’t exactly always gotten along with Coach Sloan. It was more of them just co-existing, at the same time you don’t have to like someone to work well together. I never thought that their relationship was that toxic, but we’re not around to see what happens behind closed doors nor will I speculate on it. The bottom line is that Utah has lost a GREAT coach and if they aren’t careful they could lose their best player. What many people may not realize is that D-Will is a free agent in 2012, I think the organization may have prematurely shaken things up to try to keep Williams in Utah. I love Coach Sloan’s system, but I do think it handicaps a player like Williams. Williams puts up great numbers in that great system, but he could do even more in a less structured system that was more up and down. If that’s not the case and Williams really did run Sloan out of town, if Williams is really unhappy do you trade him??  If that’s the case, the next week or so counting down to the trade deadline will be even more exciting!! I wish nothing but the best to Mr. Jerry Sloan who was one of the greatest coaches to ever coach in the NBA.
