Sixers Upset Spurs Behind Holiday

It looked like Jrue Holiday wanted to make a statement tonight, taking on another top tier point guard in Tony Parker. The last time , Parker scored at will and the Spurs crushed the Sixers. This time it was a different story, with Holiday, 27 points, dominating the match-up. Holiday not only carried the Sixers in scoring, but sealed the game with his free throws down the stretch, not something to be taken lightly considering how many times they’ve lost games from missed free throws at the end.

The Spurs just seem to struggle whenever they come to Philadelphia, losing the last 4 years they’ve visited. Struggle is a good word to describe this game. The 77-71 win only shows a little aspect of how ugly the game was. Andre Iguodala was 2-15 from the field, which is nothing new to Sixers fans, but it was frustrating to watch. Lou Williams missing lay-up after lay-up was perhaps the most maddening part of the entire game.

Doug Collins decided to keep playing Lou instead of Turner even though Williams couldn’t make a shot, missed countless number of lay-ups, while the Sixers were getting dominated on the offensive glass. That would be perhaps the only criticism I have for the entire game, considering Turner is probably the best rebounder on the team besides Brand. Elton Brand also struggled from the field only scoring 8 points but had a season high 17 rebounds taking on Duncan, McDyess, and Blair.

This is by far the best win of the year for the Sixers, who are only 3 games under .500, catching the Knicks slowly but surely for that 6 seed. They go on the road to take on the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves tomorrow. Back to back games are tough, but after such a big win, they can’t afford a let down to a bad T-Wolves team and need the win.
