New Coach, Same Result
Posted By Wilson Tarpeh Jr. On Feb 12 2011 @ 1:30 am In Utah Jazz | No Comments
It was a new chapter for the Utah Jazz whether they liked it or not, they had just ended the “Sloan Era” and began life after Sloan. Unfortunately for the Jazz, it made little to no difference on the outcome of the game as they lost for the 11th time in 15 games!! Utah jumped out to an early lead on the Phoenix Suns only to lose by 12, the Suns beat the Jazz in Tyrone Corbin’s debut as Utah’s head coach 95-83. Utah started fast which was a combination of playing on an emotional high and the Suns terrible 1st half shooting. Utah led by double-digits at the half, only to get shut down in the 2nd half by the Suns defense. I don’t even believe what I JUST typed, I just used the Suns and the word defense in the same sentence in a POSITIVE manner. Well the Suns decided to lock down Utah’s offense and only gave up 24 second half points, the Suns offense got going in the 2nd half while the Jazz were struggling. The one positive part about this game was the point guard clinic we got to watch by Deron Williams and Steve Nash, there’s a reason they are part of the “Elite” group of point guards in the league. Nash had 18 points with 10 dimes, not to mention the victory. In a loosing effort D-Will had 19 points, 14 dimes, and 8 boards!! Utah lost Andrei Kirilenko to an ankle injury early in the 2nd half, that will certainly impact Utah’s rotation. They were without Memeht Okur and Raja Bell for last night’s game, they have been hampered by injuries for most of the season. It’s only 1 game under Corbin, so there’s no way we can possibly judge him as a coach and he’s in a terrible situation by replacing an icon. The Jazz need to stop this horrible slide, it seems like the end of every post I’m telling you how much their record has suffered. This time I won’t get into the numbers, I will simply say that they are now 3rd in their division and in the race for the 7th and 8th playoff spots. Utah’s next game is against these same Phoenix Suns only this time it’s in Arizona, so we will see if Utah can avenge this loss on Tuesday evening.
