Tigers Bench Comes Through

The Missouri Tigers got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon with an 84-61 victory over Oklahoma. Tigers coach Mike Anderson showed great confidence in his bench, who accounted for 42 of the Tigers points.
The Sooners made the Tigers sweat early on with strong shooting from all over the court. Trailing 18-11, Anderson turned to his bench to gain a lead. A 14-0 run by the Tigers ensued, which included five points from Ricky Kreklow and four points from Steve Moore. The seldom-used reserves each had their best games in conference play. A 10-0 run by the Tigers later in the first half gave them a six point lead into halftime.
The Tigers dominated the second half as they jumped on the Sooners early and often. Michael Dixon (16 points), Ricardo Ratliffe (13 points) and Justin Safford (11 points) lead the Tigers in scoring. Safford was impressive all game, and looks to be settling into a reserve role.
A promising aspect from the game was the Tigers ability to finally outrebound an opposing team. The Tigers won the battle on the glass with a 34-30 advantage, which included 13 offensive rebounds.
One negative part of this game was when Laurence Bowers elbowed Marcus Denmon early in the second half. Denmon didn’t return and his knock required several stitches. The Tigers leading scorer is expected to suit up on Tuesday night when the Tigers host Texas Tech.
