Miami’s Winning Streak Might Feel Empty If They Fail to Beat Boston

The Miami Heat are on another winning streak.  The team has won eight in a row after soundly beating the Pistons, 106-92 in Detroit on Friday night.  Miami currently sits on top of the Eastern Conference standings; one half game above the Celtics, the team they take on early Sunday afternoon.  A loss to Boston today, however, will make all of these achievements seem hollow.

There are plenty of media personalities on both the local and national level who think Miami is still a rung below Boston on the conference ladder.  Let’s face it, until the Heat proves it can beat the Celtics, those people would be right.  Without question, this is a very important game for Miami.  It may only be the regular season, but the Celtics have dominated Dwyane Wade and Co. for a few years now.  LeBron struggled with Boston during his time in Cleveland and has yet to beat Boston in a Heat uniform.  While some would argue that this is a different team than in years past, there are a lot of pieces that have been here for the losing ways against the Celtics.  Wade, Mario Chalmers, Joel Anthony, Udonis Haslem, Carlos Arroyo, James Jones, Jamaal Magloire, and of course Head Coach Eric Spoelstra were all members of the Heat when they were knocked out of the playoffs last year by this team.  Of course, James and Zydrunas Ilgauskas were with Cleveland when they too were sent home by  Paul Pierce and the rest of the guys in green.  It sounds ridiculous, but Miami needs to win this game if for no other reason than to boost their own confidence, at least as it pertains to Boston.  I also think this game is important for LeBron.  Last year, many people questioned his play in games five and six of the playoff series.  It appeared to many that he gave up.  We have seen James hit some big shots against teams like Indiana, now lets see how he does against a team that has been on top of the East for the past few years.

The Celtics are a little banged up right now and given their age that could certainly be the case come the postseason.  This is a game that the Heat should win and I think that they will.  I do not, however, say that with a great deal of confidence.  There’s that word again; confidence.
