Well I guess the Calgary Flames weren’t going to get a point in every game the rest of the way this season. And after the last three game going 1-1-1 the Flames find themselves out of the playoff picture looking in again. Of course they are only a single point out of the playoffs and four points out of having home ice advantage in the first round, so lets not panic just yet.
Calgary does need to pick up their play a little though. The game against Anaheim I don’t think anyone could be happy with but at least you pulled a point out of the game. Saturday in Vancouver it was very clear how dangerous the Canucks are on special teams, which turned out to be the difference in the game with Vancouver going 2/3 on the PP while the Flames were 0/3. On a positive side for the Flames when they played the Canucks 5 on 5 they played with them all game and maybe had an edge.
This is a huge week for the Calgary Flames. They only play twice this week. Tonight against the Colorado Avalanche and Wednesday back at home to take on the Dallas Stars. Calgary will need wins in both of these games as the rest of the Western Conference will catch up to them in games played. We should have a pretty good idea of what the Flames chances truly are of making the post season by the team the Flames and Canadiens strap on the skates outside for the Heritage Classic outdoor game.
Fun times ahead for sure!
Mario Mario Mario what on earth were you thinking? If you haven’t read it yet Penguins owner Mario Lemieux went on a tirade Sunday lambasting the NHL for their lack of discipline regarding the punch up between the Penguins and Islanders. Which in itself was fine and dandy, however Mario needed to add this last line “If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to re-think whether I want to be a part of it.”
I mean really Mario? REALLY? I have three problems with Mario’s statement here. 1) Mario doesn’t actually offer up what he think should have been handed out by the NHL. If he had, then he would have more credibility. 2) Try showing up to a board of governors meeting for once if you don’t like the way things are run. You are a owner after all. 3) Mario needed to pull out the old “I’ll take my ball and go home” card. Guess what Mario? The Penguins are stable and the league doesn’t need you right now. It seems to be doing fine without Wayne Gretzky in the league. It’ll live long after you are gone.
So Mr. Lemieux either give the world a solution of what Mario would do, or just shut up and go away!
Have a good one!
