VIKINGS SHOULD BRING BACK DAUNTE CULPEPPER

In 2004, Daunte Culpepper had one of the greatest seasons ever recorded by an NFL quarterback.  In fact, while most people know that Dolphin QB Dan Marino owns the single-season mark for passing yards, almost nobody knows that Culpepper owns the total yardage mark for a single season at over 5,100, set during that 2004 campaign.  Daunte was magnificent during his early Viking years, and for the record, he was without all-world receiver Randy Moss for roughly half of the 2004 season.  So why not bring him back now?  Not as a long term solution, but as a bridge to the future.  The biggest reason for Daunte’s departure was Brad Childress.  Of course, Childress is the man to blame on many occasions.  Daunte was traded because he didn’t have an agent, pure and simple.  He offended Childress, but now, who really cares about that.

So now, Minnesota needs a future option at the QB position.  Cam Newton looks good, but he will not be available right away.  Should the Vikes sign somebody like Kyle Orton?  It seems logical, but right now, everything seems blurry.  Until the NFL gets it’s labor situation figured out, everything is up in the air.  One thing is pretty clear and that is that the Vikings will have a different QB under center.  It could be Joe Webb, Tarvaris Jackson, or Kyle Orton, but it will not be Brett Favre.  Why not Culpepper?  He is better than many options out there, including Carson Palmer.  Daunte would likely flourish with options like Peterson, Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, and more.  The Vikings have a lot of good pieces, but they need a big stick to glue it all together.  A QB could definitely be that stick.  Daunte would cost next to nothing, yet the reward could be everything.
