Sixers Match Last Years Total With Win Over Rockets

The number 27. No it’s not another weird Jim Carrey movie, where everything in his life adds up to 27, it was the total number of wins the Sixers had last year under Eddie Jordan. The game before the all star break the Sixers matched that win total with an impressive win in Houston.

Despite former Philadelphian and Nova Nation product Kyle Lowry having his career high 36, the Sixers made it look easy with a steady balance of everyone. Iguodala was an abysmal 3-15 from the field but had a triple double 13-12-10. Elton Brand and Spencer Hawes each had a double-double. Lou Williams and Thaddeus Young came off the bench with 19 a piece, both of them now are basically instant offense.  Evan Turner had 10 points 6 rebounds off the bench in a solid effort. Jrue Holiday shot 8-11 and had 20 points 8 assists to lead the team.

The Sixers have now become a solid team in the NBA after being a joke last year. Teams like Orlando won’t be looking forward to seeing them in the first round of the playoffs. You have to give Doug Collins a lot of credit for making this young group of guys a respectable team, and if they can continue their torrid pace, maybe snag a 6 seed, he should get a considerable amount of votes for Coach of the Year.

If only the Sixers could find a dominant big man, they could win with the team they have. Everyone on the team is a good defensive player with the except of Hawes and Lou Williams. The defense along with their athleticism would make them an upper echelon type of team if they had that big man to fear. Let’s put it this way, if Dwight Howard was the Center here, the Sixers would have a much better record than the Magic do right now.

Now this gives everyone time to relax and enjoy the All-Star festivities on a good note, since they played so poorly last night in Memphis, but tonight’s win redeems them. Only Jrue Holiday will be taking part in this year All-Star Weekend at the Rookie vs Sophomore game.
