Well, its been a while since I’ve wrote a blog so let’s get right to it! So, we are at the half way point of the season and the Rockets stand at 26-31, 5 games below .500. I personally think the Rockets should be atleast at .500 or 2 games over. The last two games at Toyota Center the Rockets should have won, which would have put the Rockets at 28-29 with games against the Pistons, Cavs, and Nets in which the Rockets can and should win all 3 and would have put the Rockets at 31-29. But this season so far has been a lot of what if’s. What if Yao Ming would have been healthy and still playing? Where would the Rockets be? Would they be in the top 8 of the Western Conference?
With 25 games left in the season the schedule does lighten up for the Rockets, they had a brutal schedule in month of January which resulted in a 6-11 record. So looking forward for the Rockets let’s see how they fair in the next 25 games. To make the playoffs I think they would have to go a minimum 19-6, putting the Rockets at 45-37. Now that Carmelo has been traded to the Knicks along with Billups, there’s one team that should fall in the standings Currently the Rockets are 5 games out of the 8th spot with games against favorably opponents in the 2nd half of the season let us see how they fare.
Along with the trade deadline approaching in a couple days there have been many many rumors involving almost every single player on the squad. Some names that have associated with the Rockets have been Nene, Gerald Wallace, and Andre Iguodala. The Rockets do have some positions and needs to fill. First is an inside defensive presences to alter shots, second is a closer in the final minutes of the game. Throughout this whole season the Rockets have lost too many games in the final minutes of the game, alot of that took place early in the season. So DM has some work to do if he wants to improve this team by adding a big defensive guy and a perimeter closer. Like i’ve said before the Rockets are lacking that “sexy name” superstar.
First half MVP’s for the Rockets are Kyle Lowry and Chuck Hayes. Kyle has done a tremendous job running the offense of the team and getting his own in the 1st half of the season, he is a tough nose point guard who will push the tempo for the Rockets and does not mind laying his body out. The Chuck Wagon is certainly the most underrated defender in this league. He has just gone against the toughest post men this season from Dwight, to Amare, to Zach Randolph, Kevin Love and the list goes on and on. Chuck should be on the all defensive team this season and might I add he’s got a little offense game going for himself also. I would love to see Courtney Lee get more minutes for this squad! Dude can shoot the ball lights out!
So in the 2nd half of the season the Rockets need to focus on playing all 48 minutes of the ball game and beating the opponents they are obviously better than. Let’s see if the Rockets can make a push for the playoffs and if we make any noise in the upcoming trade deadline!
Rockets will take on the Pistons tomorrow night in the Motor City and oh yeah there’s a guy named T-Mac in their starting lineup!
