Everybody’s heard of the proverbial “NCAA Tournament Resume”. Just watch ESPN on any given night from the start of February to Selection Sunday and somebody on ESPN will mention it. Or they will bring up the “blind resume” graphics comparing two potential bubble teams.
Each of those so called “Tournament Resume’s” generally includes categories such as overall record, conference wins, and quality wins/wins vs. top 50 RPI/ top #25 nationally ranked. It also includes bad losses. The Eagles 73-64 loss to the Hurricanes (which really was not as close as the 9-point margin of defeat may indicate), may not technically count as a bad loss. But realistically, the Eagles just lost a home game to a lower division ACC basketball team with only one win over a NCAA tourney lock (West Virginia, back on December 4).
There are three conference games remaining on the Eagles schedule. Two of the @ Virginia and home vs. Wake Forest, are against the dregs of the conference. The Eagles cannot afford a loss in either however. Joe Lunardi, ESPN’s resident bracketologist, now has BC in his “First Four Out” category; with Virginia Tech in the “Last Four In”. The Eagles meet the Hokies for the return date on the 1st of March. It is a must win for both teams.
