Frontcourt Comes Up Big

Posted By Nate Jacobson On Feb 24 2011 @ 2:12 am In Missouri | No Comments

With several NBA scouts at Mizzou Arena checking out Baylor’s freshman forward Perry Jones; it was the Tigers frontcourt who stole the show.

Laurence Bowers scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and recorded six steals, and Ricardo Ratliffe netted 11 points and 13 rebounds in the Tigers 77-59 over Baylor.

Juniors Bowers and Ratliffe may have not been the motive of why the scouts were in attendance, but they might start to get more recognition after tonight.

The common theme of the game was sloppy play and turnovers from both teams. The Bears had 21 turnovers, including several that were unforced. The Tigers took advantage of the Bears poor play to jump out to take a double-digit lead midway through the first half. The raucous crowd helped the Tigers hang out to the lead and stretch it out in the second half.

New 1,000 point club members Marcus Denmon and Kim English each had great shooting nights. English made four three-pointers and scored 16 points. Denmon added 13 points.

Baylor struggled from the field and lacked urgency when they needed many points in a little amount of time. The Bears were lead by Quincy Acy who scored 13 points off the bench. Jones was cold early on and finished with 10 points. It has been a disappointing season for the 6’11” freshmen, who has the potential to be the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

The Tigers (22-6, 8-5 Big 12) take their four game win streak to Kansas State for an early 11 a.m. tipoff on Saturday. The Tigers defeated the Wildcats 75-59 on January 17 at Mizzou Arena. The Wildcats (19-9, 7-6 Big 12) have played better as of late as they remain of the NCAA tournament bubble.
