It wasn’t pretty. Kobe started out dismally. He ended the 1st quarter 2-9 from the field. But he finished strong and single handily willed the Lakers to an unlikely victory going 12-22 from the 2nd quarter on.
The Lakers on the whole were a step slower than the depleted Portland squad. But somehow, down 10 with minutes to play, the Lakers found the resolve to lock down the Blazers on defense and get key baskets to send the game into OT.
The most important headline, other than the win, for the Lakers is that we can now take Ron Artest’s face off of the milk carton.
Ron Ron’s line: 8-13, 6 boards and 2 steals, 24 points in all. The first time all season Ron Ron broke the 20 point barrier.
The Lakers get the new look Clippers on Friday.
