Atlanta just wrapped up its’ marathon road trip with a 100-90 loss to Denver. I just finished unpacking after getting in from Las Vegas a few hours ago. I’m tired, and jet lagged, but I’ll try to give you the news. First off, Atlanta went 3-4 on the trip, but they got wins in places you’d expect: Detroit, Portland, and Golden State. But the big question is the trade. How is Kirk Hinrich replacing Mike Bibby? This went down last week, and I didn’t find out about it until I was en route to Vegas. (Wanted to check in with some analysis, but you know how Vegas is). Anyway, the concern is chemistry. Bibby may have lost a step (or a few), but it’s in the locker room where he has the biggest impact. He keeps the team loose, and that will be hard to replace. In the Denver games, Atlanta didn’t use a deep bench, but Josh Smith started and only played 13 minutes. Not sure if he was injured or not. I’ll check that out. Joe had 22 and Al put in 21 as both players logged over 40 minutes. Marvin finally seems to be 100%, as he played 36 minutes but could only muster 13. Now Atlanta comes home for a big four game homestand with Chicago, Oklahoma City, New York, and the Lakers. This should be huge draws, but they’ll be there for the opposition, not the Hawks. There are several buyers interested in the Spirit properties, and they appear willing to keep them put, which will make hockey fans happy. We will see if this actually comes about. Well, I’m going to try and recover from Vegas. Hopefully I’ll be able to communicate more effectively on Wednesday.
