Hansbrough’s Irish Outlast Walker’s Huskies

This was the Big East Regular Season Finale, 2 of the Conference’s best players and their teams went head to head. Ben Hansbrough led the Irish to a close win against the Uconn Huskies despite fouling out, the Irish won 70-67. Hansbrough had 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists before fouling out down the stretch. Hansbrough was largley responsible for harassing Kemba Waker when these teams met in the start of Conference play, today wasn’t the case as Kemba went off for 34 points. 34 wasn’t enough for Kemba, had he got the 37 he was shooting for the Huskies might have won. Walker took and missed a 3 point attempt with 8 seconds left on the clock with the Huskies down 69-67, Uconn finished the Big East Season with a 9-9 record which means they WILL be playing on the first day of the Big East Tournament on Tuesday. Uconn got out-rebounded again, they did have a different starting line-up for this play. Alex Oriahki came off the bench for the first time this season, Neils Giffey started in his place. The Huskies had another chance to close out a game and fell short, I’m not sure how this slide will affect their mentality going into the Big East Tournament. The Huskies shot terribly from deep against the Irish, they only connected on 4 of their 18 attempts. They did however, make all 11 of their free throw attempts so that was a plus. Kemba led the team in rebounding tonight and that needs to change for the Huskies to do well in the Conference Tournament. Uconn only turned the ball over 3 TIMES in this game, there are positive things to be taken from this loss. Uconn needs to get back to winning the rebound battle and playing defense the way they can, this has been a successful season for this team and the end is not here. I do believe that Uconn’s resume will allow them to get into the NCAA Tournament regardless of their finish in the Conference Tournament. So we will find out who Uconn is playing come Tuesday, let me reiterate this season is far from OVER!!
