Winning! That’s what the Memphis Grizzlies have been doing as of late against some of the Western Conference’s top teams. They have won three out of their last four games with wins coming against the Spurs, Mavericks, and now the Thunder. It’s looking like nobody is gonna want a piece of the Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs. With the win the Grizz held onto the 8th spot in the playoffs but are in a good position to possibly get to as high as the 5th seed.
Before the game I was interested to see the matchup between Mike Conley and Russell Westbrook. They each were the best player for their respective teams this evening. Conley finished with 20 point and 9 assists and ZERO turnovers. He made several clutch shots and had some great drives to the rack. He must have tiger blood and adonis DNA in him or something. Oh that’s right his father was a track star. Is his father still his agent? Westbrook responded with 27 and 7 dimes converting one explosive drive after another but was let down by his supporting cast.
Kevin Durant looked terrible in the first half as he continued his slump from the previous night Serge Ibaka and James Harden provided some spark. I’m sure the Thunder would match up much better against the Grizzlies with Kendrick Perkins in the lineup, who should be back in another week or so. I can’t wait to see him and Zachary pound each other in the paint. Should make for some good facial expressions as those two are legendary at the art of quizzical and “ are you kidding me” looks.
The Thunder had a nice run in the third quarter where Durant caught fire and hit 3 three pointers with a Westbrook 3 sandwiched in there cutting the lead from 16 to 6. They probably would have tied it not for some hustle plays by Mr. Shane Battier, the man they traded two former first rounders and a future first rounder to get back on their team.
Memphis opened strongly in the fourth and withstood a couple more Thunder runs to hold on for an impressive win. Marc Gasol was very impressive down low with 18 and 6. He even dropped a Kareem sky hook in Nazr Mohammed’s grill in the first quarter. There are not many better centers in the league then Gasol which is suprising considering he looks like the Pillsbury dough boy. Tony Allen had another impressive game as he usually saves his best performances for Oklahoma City. O.J. Mayo continues to somehow get worse. I can’t believe this guy has fallen off to the point where they were trying to give him away at the trade deadline for Josh McRoberts. Josh McRoberts!??
While I doubt the Grizz are on what Charlie Sheen is, they are “Winning!,” and trust me when I tell you that nobody wants to face this team come playoff time. Memphis should be able to reach that number 6 seed in the playoffs and they are doing this without one of their star players in Rudy Gay. Can the Grizzlies continue playing at this high of a level? Zach Randolph replied “ DUH!!!” “Hello,” “ We are Rockstars.” No he didn’t actually say that but it would be funny if he did right? Big win for the Grizz tonight.
