With the Sabres and Devils losing last night, the Rangers find themselves back on good ground with their fate somewhat in their own hands.
And by the time the puck drops in Anaheim tonight, the Rangers will have more of their destiny lined up for them as the Hurricanes will have certainly finished up their game against the Thrashers.
The standings before today’s game…
As you can see if the Canes happen to lose tonight, and the Rangers can find a way to get 2 points against a good Anaheim team, this will have been a huge couple of days for NYR.
With a win they can increase the cushion they have on the Sabres, and start making moves on the Canadiens ahead of them, although I wouldn’t count on the possibility of the Rangers being able to climb to 6th place this season.
I don’t even want to think about what a loss tonight might constitute, well, mostly, a huge missed opportunity.
Torts isn’t sure yet what the Rangers personnel on the ice is going to look on, but I’d hope after routing the Flyers 7-0 he wouldn’t have the slightest thought to change anything. However he has surprised me once this season and I’m sure he’ll do it again, and it really wouldn’t surprise me if Avery sat in favor of Christensen tonight. It would be a joke, but it wouldn’t be a surprise.
I’m expecting lines of…
Dubinsky – Anisimov – Callahan
Avery – Prospal – Gaborik
WW – Stepan – Zucc
Fedotenko – Boyle – Prust
tonight…but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see until Torts meets the media later today.
You’ve got to believe that the Rangers are riding high after Sunday’s victory, and are hopefully ready to take that on roll and leave the west coast with four more points in their pockets.
With 14 games remaining and sitting at 74 points, it would take 8 more wins to get to 90. That’s the bare minimum I’m looking for from a team to sneak into the playoffs this season. I think 93+ is a much more comfortable number to aim for, which would take a record like 9-4-1 to accomplish.
With so many teams pushing for what seems right now as two spots remaining in the top 8, every point matters and there’s no such thing as setting your goals too high.
the best part about currently holding one of those spots? The only thing that matters to the Rangers right now is their game. If they win their game then nothing else matters.
Go out, get two points, and get ready to keep doing it.
Go get it.
Puck drop is scheduled for 1030 tonight, hope you all stay up to watch the game. I know I’ll be glued to the TV
LETS GO RANGERS
