REUNITED AND IT DOESN’T FEEL SO GOOD…. THERE WAS A WHOLE LOT OF MAGIC ON THE FLOOR BUT THE SUN DEFINITELY WASN’T SHINING…

Yesterday’s family reunion was a bitter sweet jamboree. Too bad the only team celebrating was the Orlando Magic with their 111 – 88 win over the Phoenix Suns. With Vince facing his fellow comrades and the return of J Rich & Hedo to Phoenix, it brought a sparkle to their former teammate’s eyes – there were a lot of bottled emotions between the two teams. Who are we kidding? Just let those emotions out boys – the players on the Miami Heat seem to think its OK. Only real men cry, right?
Players on the top-level teams seem to be getting all sensitive these days so, why not let the emotions run wild. What I think is wild, is that players of their caliber should very well know that regardless of the game being a macerate, tomorrow is another day, so wipe your tears and get over it – no need to sulk. I also find it hilarious that on camera, players love to turn our crank and feed us with sports clichés, when back in the locker room, deep down they are all emotional wrecks. This being said and with all the free flowing emotions in the league, Gentry took the time to talk to Gortat prior to yesterday’s game, simply to ensure his emotions were intact when facing Orlando for the first time after the big six player trade between the two teams back in December. Everyone wants to do well against their ex-team, just like an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend who always has something to prove post break up … but keeping your composure is the secret.
Although the sun didn’t seem to be shining yesterday for Phoenix, the game was definitely a hot mess, or… there was magic potion in Orlando’s water bottles. Orlando successfully proved their point to Phoenix, there was no holding back for them. Whether it was old family, new family, old and new teammates, fans or all the hype – they weren’t fazed at all.
Nonetheless, the “family” reunion was truly amiable. The free throws early in the game gave the players a chance to catch up with one another. I felt like I was watching an episode of family matters. When Carter was up at the free throw line, his former teammates were all smiles and indirectly rooting for him… at one point, I thought they were going to bring out their pompoms and start cheering for him too. Ultimately, it was nice to see all the support and respect the players still have for one another. It is also inspiring to see that these players have successfully adjusted to their new teams and are in good spirits, enjoying themselves. Even better, not even one tear was shed after yesterday’s game!
