What can stop the Washington Capitals? The team seemingly isn’t letting down, post the trade deadline, and after several key injuries have piled up. Nichlas Backstrom, Jason Arnott, Mike Green, Tom Poti and Semyon Varlamov are all out due to injury. But the Caps juggernaut continues to pour it on. The Caps have won 9 straight games!
Tonight, the Caps took down the Montreal Canadiens 4-2. With a make-shift line up, the Caps got two goals from Marcus Johansson and one from Brooks Laich, who played at the center position given the injuries to Backstrom and Arnott. Braden Holtby is 5-0 in his last five games in goal for the Caps. He has let in 6 goals during that stretch and is 9-2-2 overall in the 2010-2011 campaign. Holtby is benefiting from fine defensive paly in front of him. He was named the NHL’s #1 Star for the week of March 13. He’s been really steady, but has not been called on to be spectacular.
Carey Price kept this game close while in goal for the Habs. He faced 41 shots, while the Habs mustered 26 shots on Holtby.
The Caps are 1 point out of first place in the East and have created a 5 point separation from Tampa Bay in the Southeastern Conference standings.
Love the grit and focus of this team. Winners overcome obstacles… but here’s to the Caps getting healthy again… can’t imagine key notable players out during a Stanley Cup run! The Caps will need ALL THEIR HORSES to win the Cup this year!
