Clippers-Cavaliers Preview (March 19)

Remember the last time these two teams met? It happened on February 11 in Cleveland, and it represented something of a milestone.

Yep. The Cavaliers were able to halt their NBA-record 26-game losing streak at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers 126-119.

Shortly thereafter, the teams completed a trade just prior to the deadline that brought Mo Williams and Jamario Moon to Los Angeles in exchange for Baron Davis and a 2011 first-round draft choice.

In that first meeting, current Cav (then Clipper) Davis finished with 26 points and seven assists while current Clipper (then Cav) Williams sparked his team with 17 points and 14 assists.

Williams has played well in a Clippers uniform averaging about 17 points and six assists in nine games. Davis, who returned Wednesday after missing the previous three games due to the death of his grandmother, is averaging about 14 points and four assists per game with Cleveland.

L.A. is 5-6 since the trade, while Cleveland is 3-7. 3-7 isn’t so bad considering they’ve won just 13 games the entire season.

Rookie sensation Blake Griffin appears to have hit a wall of late, and is averaging just about 17 points over his last seven games, including just 14 on 3-12 shooting during Wednesday’s loss to the 76ers. He’s averaging 22.2 points per game on the year.

Leading scorer Eric Gordon, who has been out since March 5 as he continues to nurse a right wrist injury, could return for this game. The Clippers have gone 3-3 in his absence.

Cavaliers leading scorer Antawn Jamison appears shelved for the rest of the season with a broken finger. The Clippers won’t be missing him, as he scored 35 points (including several key buckets down the stretch) in their last meeting.

The Cavaliers have won nine straight games against the Clippers.

Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30pm PT.
