The Lakeshow have officially confirmed their championship status with a thrilling 139-137 win against the Phoenix Suns Tuesday night.
Arguably the game of the year, the contest went into triple overtime, with big time performances from The Mamba and Co. L.O., starting in his second consecutive game while Andrew Bynum serves the second of his two-game suspension had a monstrous night, scoring 29 points and snagging down 16 rebounds. Pau Gasol came up big (especially with the two free throws he hit to send the game into a third overtime), finishing with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Ron Artest adds a surprising, but huge 18 points to contribute to this hard fought victory.
The Black Mamba, strikes in assassin mode, going off for 42 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the the Lakers to their 5 straight victory.
Now for most people who saw the game, they will say that the Lakers had a double-digit lead in the second, and should have blown the Suns out easily, but that’s never the case when you face a team that shoots the three ball the way Phoenix does. This game was more than just about getting the “W,” it was more about the resiliency this Laker squad has shown in the second half of the season.
With a 13-1 record since the all-star break, the Lakeshow have found that invincible formula to winning games, something that has eluded this team during several different moments in the firsts half of the season. The know how to get it done has been reprogrammed back into their brain, and now their locked in and ready to go as the playoffs are almost upon us.
With home games against the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Hornets to end the week, they are expected to continue to take care of business, because unlike the first half of the season, the Lakeshow don’t plan on taking any nights off from here on out until the “Three Peat” is completed.
