EA Sports Was Garbage
Posted By Joseph Hopkins On Mar 25 2011 @ 2:52 pm In NASCAR | No Comments
I’m not really into gaming, but I have been suckered by EA Sports in my lifetime. I might be alone in saying this, but I can’t stand their games.
I’ve only owned three of EA’s NASCAR titles: NASCAR 2005, 2007, and 2009. I actually just bought 2009 a week ago for $5. Because ’09 is the most recent, I’ll talk about that one.
-Every time there’s a caution, nobody pits unless they’re in the fuel window. Why would the 43rd place car not pit? What track position does he have to lose?
-You have to turn the caution flags off. You can barely go a lap without debris getting on the track and bringing out the yellow. It’s like watching a real life NASCAR race.
-The qualifying is completely random. It’s not the matter of the best driver managing a good qualify. If they qualify 36th, they’ll likely finish 30th or back. So it takes the competitiveness out of it. You know it’s bad when Dario Franchitti and Michael Waltrip finish 1st and 2nd.
-The damage is ridiculous. Flip the car over and the pit crew fixes the thing right up. I’d love to see that happen.
-Too easy. On the hardest level, I always skip qualifying to make it a challenge.
Most of the games had problems similar to these. I can probably think of plenty more, but those are the most basic. This one wasn’t awful, but it still had so many fixable problems. The games never got much better over time, which is the standard theme for EA.
My favorite NASCAR game is probably Dirt to Daytona, made by InfoGrames. It had its flaws, but then again it came out in 2002. That game was awesome.
Although it’s considered one of the worst, I do love me some Days of Thunder on the NES.
As we all know, EA discontinued their NASCAR gaming franchise. But it’s just so hard to believe that their games were so bad. How can you so badly screw up a racing genre?
I don’t understand why the Madden series is popular either. I find that it’s the same game every year. The last one I bought that I thought was worth the purchase was Madden 2005. I haven’t bought one since the year Vince Young was on the cover. I might write an article on that too eventually for my football blog.
Picks for Fontana:
Winner: #48 Jimmie Johnson
1.) Jimmie Johnson- Five wins with a 5.3 average finish. Yes, please
2.) Jeff Gordon- Bound for a bit of a rebound
3.) Clint Bowyer
4.) Matt Kenseth
5.) Carl Edwards- Red hot. Doesn’t hurt to have 10 top ten finishes out of 13 races
Typo on the back of NASCAR 09
