Things are tightening up like a vice in the Western conference playoff race and the Stars are currently on the bubble. They can either start winning and push somebody else out onto that bubble or call it a season. Each team is desperate and playoff atmosphere is already abound. It’s going to take a hero to make that play, block that shot, score that goal, make that big save, etc. So who’s it gonna be ? Who will step up ?
Truthfully the Dallas Stars need everybody on the ice to be heroes for the remaining nine games and it’s gonna take 60 minutes + every night of making those big plays to do it. Every game is a do or die situation now as they currently sit one point back of the Ducks for the 8th and final playoff spot.
Tonight’s game in Nashville is gigantic. The Preds sit in 6th spot with 90 points, four ahead of the Stars but they’ve played two more games. So a regulation win tonight will make up one of those games and depending on what happens in the Anaheim-Chicago game tonight, they could potentially move into that 8th and final spot. But the Hawks sit in 6th so although a win by them would be ideal, they’re still a team the Stars find themselves battling it out with in the hunt.
That’s part of the problem is that there’s several match ups between the teams involved in the race. So even if you win your game, someone somewhere else is sure to gain points as well so it’s basically pick your poison. The worst case scenario is seeing those games go into extra time. Then of course even the loser gains a point.
It’s really a heated game of musical chairs and although you can’t help but scoreboard watch, the bottom line is that the Stars need to take care of business themselves. They’re still in position where they can control their own destiny by simply winning their games. But with just nine games left including tonight’s match up in Nashville, that could slip out of their fingers in the blink of an eye.
Time to step up Stars and take care of business. We will soon find out what this team is truly made of.
