VICTORY OVER THE SIXERS ON FRIDAY NIGHT IS ONE OF THE BEST WINS OF THE SEASON

The Miami Heat are starting to look like most people thought they would; really fricking good.  The game against Philadelphia was an example of just how good.  Early on, it looked like Miami was going to be their own worst enemy.  They were turning the ball over and digging themselves a hole on the scoreboard.  Then, midway through the second quarter something happened.  Dwyane Wade took over and led the Heat on a 23-2 run.  D3 dropped in 19 points during the period and after trailing by as much as 16 points, Miami led at halftime, 51-50.  Wade was just getting started.

As the second half got underway, the Heat once again let the Sixers seize control.  Philly actually held a 5 point lead going into the fourth quarter, but the bad news for them was that DWade would once again take over.  He poured in another 18 points in the final quarter to finish with 39.  While all of Miami’s stars played very well, Dwyane was on a different level.  He was relentless, slashing into the paint, soaring up to the rim, and leaving defenders in his wake.  During this highlight show, the Heat went on a 21-3 run and wound up winning the game 111-99.  Watching Wade on Friday night was reminiscent of the 2006 NBA Finals against Dallas.  One of the differences between #3 and other players is that when he goes on a tear like this, he doesn’t just fill up meaningless stat sheets, he literally pulls the rest of his team to another level with him.  A lot of the plays he makes, such as steals and blocks, wind up immediately involving teammates, provide fresh scoring opportunities, and snatch momentum away from the opponent.  Much like Jordan of years ago, or Kobe in recent times, Wade has that killer instinct.  Some people are expecting that quality to rub off on LeBron, but I don’t think that is something that can be taught or transferred.  A guy either has it or he doesn’t.

As the game was in the final minutes, you could hear the chants of M-V-P starting to rumble through the AAA.  The fans are starting to realize that while they have an awesome new toy and weapon in LeBron James, the man who holds the key to unlock another NBA Championship for South Florida is Dwyane Wade.  This was an excellent win for the Heat.  It marks the first time that all three of Miami’s stars recorded a double-double in the same game, the Heat won the points in the paint battle, and dominated on the glass.  The fact that the Sixers might be the Heat’s opponent in the first round of the NBA Playoffs is a bonus since Wade and the boys have owned Philadelphia over the last two seasons, losing only once.  The biggest story though is the play of D3.  The Miami Heat are at their best when he is behind the wheel.  While Derrick Rose might win the MVP, Dwyane Wade is the best player on what may be the best team.  That’s ok though, I’m sure he would rather have another Finals MVP award to take home in June.
