I know this is a Laker blog, but this going to end up being fools gold, here kitty, kitty, soft, Dallas Maverick rip job.
First, let’s talk about the Lakers. The way the Lakers are rolling now you have to believe they are going to steamroll through the west. Any series that goes 7 games would be a shock. I don’t care if it is the Spurs or Thunder, the Lakers are running laps around their foes in the west and it is only a matter of time until Kobe and D-Fish get their 6th and PJ gets his 12th ring.
I’ve loved the Matt Barnes signing from the beginning. Dude always gave Kobe a tough time defensively, and since Ron Ron is now “nice, kiss my biceps” Ron Ron, Lakers needed a wingman who would drive foes crazy and be an enforcer. He’s the best Laker enforcer since Rick Fox.
And what I loved the most about last night’s game (Chris Webber did a fantastic job of dissecting the differences between the teams) was that the Lakers proved to the Mavs that they are miles away from reaching championship level. The Lakers can see the goal in the distance. And on nationally TV, for any team wanting to win the championship and claim the Larry O’Brien trophy, kicking your game up a notch or two won’t be enough.
The Spurs has received the message. Dallas received the message. The Celtics have received the message. The Bulls saw the message last night. I seriously don’t think the Lakers care if Miami gets the message because they know the Heat won’t be there in the end.
I’ll close on Dallas. Every year it is the same bullsh!t about the Mavs. I love Mark Cuban, I hope he buys the Dodgers and saves them from its current ownership disaster, but Dirk Nowitzki doesn’t have mental toughness to push, will his team to championship level. He’s a hall of famer. May be one of the 50 greatest players of all time, but he is not a leader. He doesn’t have Kobe’s will or drive to win. He allowed D-Wade to win his only championship at his expense after being up 2-0 in the series. We’ve even seen Lebron go on 25 point runs to will his team to victory. Cuban needs to find a #1 to run with Dirk and make Dirk #1A.
In terms of mental toughness, Dirk is two notches below Kobe and one behind DWade, The Celtics Trio, Tim Duncan, et al.
So anyone who was dumb enough to buy into the Mavs AGAIN, for the 8th season in a row, I’d like for you to take your time and energy and use it from something else. I have two kids that will go to college so if you are planning to bet on the Mavs to win it all just give the money to me. Vegas and off shore casinos in the Cayman Islands don’t need your money, I do.
If you are willing to invest your time into the team thinking that “this is the year”, step back a moment and go online and find a charity that needs volunteers. Your time will be better spent and you will feel better about yourself in the end.
Never believe the Dallas hype people. As long as Dirk is the lead dog, they will always be sniffing the butt of the dogs ahead of them.
