The Yankees came out of the gate with bats on fire and took two of three from Detroit. Mark Teixeira had three dingers in the three games, and Jorge Posada homered twice yesterday in powering the Bombers’ offense to score 23 runs in the first series of the season. Tex has seven RBI to boot.
CC Sabathia had a decent opening day start, but Joba got the win in relief as the Yankees rallied against the Detroit bullpen. AJ Burnett pitched well enough to win despite giving up three runs in five innings, but Phil Hughes was just lacking, giving up five runs in four innings. Mariano Rivera has saved both of the Yankees’ wins.
Ivan Nova takes the mound to open a four-game set with the Twins. Minnesota escaped Toronto with a win on Sunday to avoid a four-game sweep. The Twinkies are taking some time to warm up this year it seems.
Everything seems to be going ok in Yankee Land thus far, especially at the plate. At this pace, the Yankees should win 108 this year.
