With 81 games down, the entire season comes down to the last day of the regular season for the Dallas Stars. A win in Minnesota and a Chicago loss vs Detroit would give the Stars the 8th and final playoff spot in the West where they would face the Vancouver Canucks in the opening round while leaving the defending Champs on the outside looking in.
With five games left in the season as of last week, the Stars figured they would have to win out in order to have a shot and that’s what it’s come down to. They’re 4 for 4 so far now have a chance to make it.
The Stars have faired pretty well against the Wild this season so far, winning each of the last two games by scores of 4-0 and winning 4-3 in OT back in early December. Meanwhile the Hawks are 4-1 against the Wings this year, including a 4-2 win in Detroit on Friday night. The Wings have been somewhat cold as of late winning just three of their last ten games including a 10-3 pounding at the hands of the St.Louis Blues. They’ve dropped their last two game as well but if ever there was a time for Mike Modano and co. to get back to their winning ways, today would be the day.
Score board watching, although exhilarating, is generally not what you want to be doing at this point of the season. But compared to the last two seasons, I’ll take it.
